Dr. Fritz Smith, osteopath,
physician and acupuncturist,
developed Zero Balancing in
1975. The name arose out of
an early recipient's description
of her session:
A Zero Balancing session takes 60 minutes and costs $80 + tax ($55 + tax for students) or $180 + tax for 3 ZB sessions in 3 weeks. Zero Balancing is not covered by MSI but may be covered by private insurance plans as part of an acupuncture visit. Contact your insurance provider to find out whether or not you are covered.
Wear loose, comfortable clothes to your appointment. Bulky, heavy or tight-fitting clothing may hinder the treatment.
The examination will begin with a series of questions regarding your symptoms, the treatments you've received, your medical history, the medications you're on (if any), your diet, digestive system, sleeping patterns and emotional state. Once this information has been gathered, I'll know how best to proceed with your treatment.
It is important to note that Zero Balancing is a complement to medical health care and not a substitute for it. Zero Balancing is not designed for the acutely ill or disturbed person. It is inappropriate immediately after surgery, bone fractures or pregnancy and can only resume after sufficient structural healing has occurred.
Depending on your condition, the treatment will start with you either in a reclined or seated position. I will then use my hands to balance your energy either by applying pressure with my fingers to various parts of your body or by holding parts of your body in gentle stretches. The treatment is vigorous and yet relaxing. It will provide a point of stillness around which your body will relax and your mind will let go of unease and pain.
Zero Balancing promotes a deep state of relaxation and it is common for people to feel refreshingly rested and more centred within their body after their first session.
You may also experience a new state of awareness from which old patterns within your mind and body are released. This may manifest itself as noticeable changes in the way you experience your physical structure and movement or as a shift in your inner landscape so that new opportunities and choices become apparent.
Three follow up sessions are recommended. Beyond that, the frequency of treatments will depend on your condition. Some people continue to have Zero Balancing on a regular basis while others find it beneficial at times when they need to function at their best or want help during transitions in their lives.
Payments can be made in cash or by cheque and must be made in full immediately following your appointment. Patients covered by insurance can submit their receipt(s) to their insurance provider for reimbursement.
